Traffic Alert - Lane Shift

There is currently a lane shift on Town Hall Drive. One lane in both directions will remain open for the duration of the work. The sidewalk on the west side of Town Hall Drive between Indian Creek Greenway and Downing Glen Drive is currently closed. Detours and sidewalk closure signs are posted - please stay aware and use caution in the area!

Overview:

The Carolina Street extension project will connect the existing Carolina Street to Town Hall Drive through a roundabout.  It will also extend Foxglove Drive from Jeremiah Street to Carolina Street.  Sidewalk and lane closures will be required on Town Hall Drive.  Sidewalks and parking on the south side of Jeremiah Street, particularly near the Foxglove Drive intersection, will be affected during construction.

This project is a key piece of the Town Center Core Demonstration project, which is currently in development. The proposed Town Center Core Demonstration project site includes the area between Town Hall Drive (west) and future Foxglove Drive (east), and Jeremiah Street (north) to Carolina Street extension (south). The demonstration project site concept includes a new Wake County Library, apartments, retail space and parking. Construction on the Wake County Library is expected to start in late 2018 and open in late 2019.

Major Project Milestones:

  • Spring 2018: Project Contract Awarded
  • Summer 2018: Start of Construction
  • Spring 2019: Project Completed
