Collection Centers

Due to their caustic properties and their potential for environmental contamination, household hazardous waste materials must be properly disposed of by a certified Household Hazardous Waste contractor. Therefore, household hazardous waste materials are not collected by the Town of Morrisville.

Wake County, however, has just expanded its Household Hazardous Waste program to six days a week at both of the following Household Hazardous Waste Facilities available to Morrisville residents:

  • South Wake Solid Waste Management Facility
    6130 Old Smithfield Road
    Apex, NC 27502
    Monday - Saturday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • North Wake Solid Waste Management Facility
    9037 Deponie Drive
    Raleigh, NC 27614
    Monday - Saturday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Accepted household hazardous waste materials include:

  • acids/bases
  • automobile fluids/antifreeze
  • batteries
  • cooking oil/motor oil
  • fire extinguishers (dry chemical)
  • fluorescent light bulbs
  • fuel oil/lighter fluid/kerosene
  • household cleaners/chemicals
  • mercury thermometers
  • paints/lacquers/polishes
  • pesticides/herbicides poisons
  • photographic chemicals
  • solvents/thinners/wood preservatives

Unaccepted household hazardous waste materials include:

  • ammunition
  • commercially generated waste
  • explosives/shock sensitive items
  • hypodermic needles/syringes
  • medical waste
  • radioactive materials
  • smoke detectors
  • trash/recyclables
  • unknown materials

Medical Waste Removal

Infectious waste/untreated, regulated medical waste cannot by law be disposed in sanitary landfills. Companies capable of properly disposing of this waste can be found in the BellSouth Yellow Pages under Waste Removal - Medical.
