The greenway project was completed in August 2018, excluding the missing greenway portion under the North Carolina Railroad. The contractor for the North Carolina Railroad Crabtree Creek Bridge replacement project will build the missing portion of the greenway. This work is expected to be completed in Summer 2020.
Crabtree Creek and Hatcher Creek Greenway projects were first identified in the 2001 Greenway Master Plan. A portion of the Hatcher Creek Greenway was completed in 2004 as part of Morrisville Community Park, the remaining portions seemed more like a dream than a reality. Significant outside funding from Wake County and NCDOT made this project come to life.
This project provides a much needed east-west greenway corridor through Morrisville connecting to Lake Crabtree to the east and the Town of Cary’s greenway system to the west. Additionally the project will offer a safe pedestrian crossing underneath the railroad and NC-54. Construction on the main parts of the greenway are finished, and the sections from Davis Drive to Chapel Hill Road and from Chapel Hill to Evans Road are complete and ready for use.
