Morrisville Parkway Grade Separation

October 2016 UPDATE
The roadwork for the grade separation is substantially complete.  There may be occasional lane closures over the next 2-3 months as the contractor completes signal work and other minor work associated with the roadwork, and the contractor will be continuing to work on the railroad corridor over the next 4-6 months.  During this time, train whistles will continue to sound through the area since it will be an active construction site.  The project is expected to be complete by May 2017.

Overview:

This NCDOT project is being funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The project will eliminate an at-grade rail road crossing by building a bridge over the Morrisville Parkway.

Morrisville Parkway Grade Separation is one of twenty projects proposed in the Southeast High Speed Rail Corridor. These projects are designed to lower trip times, increase capacity, and ensure safety and reliability through: track construction and reconfiguration (i.e., double tracking, passing siding extension/addition, crossovers/interlocking, curve realignment, and higher speed turnouts); highway/railroad grade crossing safety improvements; renovated/new support facilities; upgraded/enhanced passenger stations; and additional vehicle capacity.
